New York University Abu Dhabi

In this increasingly inter-connected virtual and physical world, New York University has developed a research university in Abu Dhabi with a fully integrated liberal arts and science college. In addition to the new campus, NYU Abu Dhabi launched an Institute which hosts various programs throughout the year with cutting-edge research, scholarship, and cultural activity.

The challenge was to create a unique look for NYUAD while still representing the school as part of a larger organization. The iconic NYU torch was configured into an Islamic-inspired arabesque pattern, which can take on a variety of colorways.

Pinterest: Knitcon

Every year, Pinterest shuts its doors for 2 days and hosts an internal conference called KnitCon. The concept comes from one of Pinterest’s core values: knitting, meaning the best work comes when folks from different backgrounds and expertise come together to create something new.

In that spirit, the conference invites people from all over, both famous and not, to share their knowledge and creativity with Pinterest’s employees.

Upper One Games

An initiative realized by the Cook Inlet Tribal Council in Alaska, Upper One Games seeks to re-imagine the future of video games and how they might nurture the legacy of Alaskan tribal heritage.

We had several key roles in this project: Naming Upper One Games, creating the identity and brand, a “brand anthem” short video for promotional materials and press events, and finally a website for interested investors and fans.

The Upper One Games name came from our on-site workshops with the Cook Inlet Tribal Council, where we (non native Alaskans) noticed that Alaskans refer to the United States mainland as the “lower 48.” Reversing this colloquialism, we get the “upper 1.” In addition to a geographic reference, Upper One is the first indigenously-owned gaming company in North America. So the Upper One name is both aspirational and personal, a combination we like a lot when it comes to names.
